The press release for the Brainwavz SOs throws around a lot of terms that are – to many – perhaps a little difficult to comprehend. These include “3D printed,” “sound spectrum,” and “foam tips.” Okay, perhaps that last one won’t cause anyone much bother – but you get the idea.
So are such terms meaningless bluster, or do they actually make these in-ear headphones worthy of consideration over their mid-range rivals? Well, read on…
The Brainwavz SO’s are certainly distinctive in appearance, with the buds boasting a sleek metal design. Sadly the cabling isn’t quite as stylish, being slightly too chunky – it’s also far from being “tangle free,” as the press release boldy claims.
In any case they undoubtably feel well made, and withheld hours of daily use with ease in the Regio Leaks office.
You get a lot of bang for your buck with the Brainwavz SO’s. The most obvious feature is the in-line remote and mic, which can control music playback and volume on the majority of smartphones.
You’re also given a nifty little case, along with a what seems like millions of different bud types to try – ranging from tri-flange to foam tips. The latter were the best fit for me personally, and provided some effective noise cancellation and comfort.
The Brainwavz SOs have sound that won’t have you crying for joy, but neither are they to be sneezed at. Bass is a little lacking, with the focus being to create a more precise sound.
The mids and highs are, like the headphones themselves, sturdy but unspectacular. But these are headphones at the lower end of the pricing bracket – if you’re buying these for casual outdoor use you won’t go far wrong.
For the price, these are an impressively sturdy pair of in-ear headphones with a huge amount of extras to boot. They’re not the most comfortable, but with the large number of buds provided you’re sure to get some joy out of the Brainwavz SOs.
